New Banner: Vamptastic

Posted November 2nd, 2009 by Kelly

A little late for a Halloween present, but it’s close enough. ;) This one features three different kinds of vampires.

Alucard, on the right, is the main man himself. D, in the center, is a dhampir (or dunpeal depending on your source) who’s daddy was a vamp. Light, on the left, is what you’d call an “emotional vampire”, meaning he feeds on other people’s emotions. Watch the show and you’ll believe me. Death Note is next on my review slate, and if you’re crafty enough you’d notice that the draft is already up. :D

New Review: Hellsing

I gots me a new review! And it’s a series, not a movie:

I actually went with my second image choice for the banner. The one I wanted to use looked awful in this wide size.

Internets and Death

Posted October 29th, 2009 by Kelly

So apparently FB has updated its policy on profiles of dead members. It can be turned into a “shrine” or memorial, or your relatives can have it deleted. But they can’t root around through the messages. When you die in the real world, people rifle around through your stuff, no? So why can’t we do that in the virtual world?

So death in the online world is a real thing. Trouble is, sometimes you just don’t know if someone has died or if they just abandoned their account. I’m sure there are places I don’t visit anymore. But do they think I’m dead? Probably not. Occam’s Razor- when you have two possibilities, the simpler one is most likely. “Oh they just got bored with this site” is more logical than “he must have died”.

New Anime: Tsukuyomi (Moon Phase)

I like this one. It’s another vampire show, but this is shojo. So the show isn’t focused entirely on blood and killing. The main character is a ~14 year old, but she’s a lot more interesting than your average 14 year old. Her “love interest” is dense. VERY dense. Most of the comedy comes from his actions. This show is definitely worth a watch, and the $23 I spent on the box set through Right Stuf was not a waste.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while… I’m really busy right now, but I have a review in the works so I’ll try to finish that up. Learning Japanese is hard, and it’s even harder when you have three other classes and are applying for a trip to Tokyo. ^^;

I’m not a war movie fan, but I watched this and did a review anyway. Enjoy!

Cosplay conundrum

Posted September 10th, 2009 by Kelly

Well, I’ve started making a costume for Setsucon. I’m going to be Rinoa from FF8. ^_^ As we speak, I’m sewing buttons on a skirt I found at Goodwill. The thing about cosplay is that you seldom find everything you need pre-made. I got lucky when I found a pink dress with full length buttons on the front when I played Aeris. Rinoa is a little more difficult because I have to make that damn duster she wears. That’s next…

Classes started back up, so I’m probably not going to post on the blog as frequently as before. But no fear, I plan to keep adding oodles to the main site and will have many new reviews! :)

I FIXED IT!!!

Posted August 6th, 2009 by Kelly
I fixed my maneki neko! It’s been broke for years, and today I took it apart and got it working again! I knew what was wrong with it (the arm disconnected), but before I couldn’t figure out how to get the arm assembly back into the case in one piece. Today I used an xacto knife to cut the arm piece from the assembly, reinstalled the base, and slid the arm in from the outside. And the battery operated swing still works! The weird thing is, I thought my cat would love it, but instead she poofed up when I showed it to her.

For those not in the know, a maneki neko is the Japanese beckoning cat that you see at many Chinese and Japanese eateries. Sandy Tan gave it to me as a Christmas present in high school.

At least I think she did. ;)

My maneki neko. She works now!
